Ah, Tony Serra... what an amazing man and a fantastic attorney... and when he's not before the Court he's an almost shy totally humble man... I very much admire him...
I got to see him in action when he came to handle a case in our court... several of the attorneys in our office had their pictures taken with him but I just stood and admired from afar...
He does sound like quite a lawyer. I was disappointed to read in that article that he'd lost his own case. It was just the way it read that made me wonder if the whole thing was real - and to think that if it existed anywhere, it would have to be SF.
Hee, Yeah... Living out here (especially when I lived in SF itself) you sorta get used to the whole ~land of fruits and nuts~ aspersion... and develop a twisted sense of pride in it all...
Tony Serra's life IS unreal... and just reporting the reality makes it seem less than real... I know... and it's also true that his myth preceeds him and sometimes gets embellished...
I also admire him because he has such a strength of conviction where so many of my/his generation caved in and went for the big bucks (lucky me, fate has conspired to keep me poor and provided less incentive for me to give up my ethics) :-p
So... when is your departure date? mine is looking closer to the end of May (I'll take vacation to June 27)...
Fate did that to me too! Just a few days ago, a colleague consulted me on something and I told him he would have to refer part of the question to whoever dealt with professional ethics, which produced a short burst of semi-hysterical laughter... one of my job descriptions actually included "devil's advocate" - partially becasue I was the only person with the nerve (or lack of tact) to occasionally ask whether anyone had considered the ethical position.
I'm finishing work on 28th April. My lawyer (*I* have a lawyer - that's just so unreal) emailed me this afternoon - my termination agreement is nearly finalised. I still have to book my ticket - it'll be for around 10 May, it looks like.
Hee! Devil's Advocate... it's actually a whole lotta fun, isn't it? Call it nerve, lack of tact... whatever... I claim the moral high ground for all us mouthy opinionated types!!
OMG! I totally understand your panic... your departure date is SO close... at this point my panic attacks are more transitory and intermittant... although I know I'll be totally freaking out in about a month...
How are you managing the logistics of shipping of stuff and the living in your nearly empty domicile and the getting out the door and on the road? That's my major freaking point right now...
No Xanax! - my idea of aided relaxation is more like Tony Serra's. :) I know the stress contributed to the really vicious migraine I had a few days ago, so I'm consciously trying not to worry too much. It's stuff, things, all replacable - I don't need it or love it that much. If need be, I'll go with my laptop, iPod & passport. And a jewellery box. ;)
Someone I know may be taking the flat over - if he does, there'll be a bit less to move out. Most of it's going to the Salvation Army anyway, I expect.
The last few days I'll probably couch-surf at friends. I'm thinking a hotel room for the last night.
***hugs*** to you too! I'll be staying tuned to hear how you're doing it!
