Saturday afternoon the cable guy called and asked if he could turn up in half an hour - several hours earlier than the appointment. I wasn't going to risk another no-show, so of course. He turned up, and was an amusing young guy, who came in and got at the installation, which shouldn't take more than half an hour. Except - oops - things started going wrong, the worst of which was that the line into the house from the pole was damaged and frayed and water had gotten in. But fortunately, his next job was with someone else who also turned up and repaired the connection at the pole within minutes. Apparently this one is a madman who's at least part monkey, and will shin up poles on steep hills when it's raining without a qualm. And he did, and was gone in 10 minutes. The inside guy then started on the internet connection, and was, gladly, impressed with Macs even though the company doesn't support then, and it took him a little while, but he got there. By the time he left, the tv still wasn't being received, but he said the box should authorise shortly and to call if it didn't within the hour. When he left, I got the wireless router out and managed to successfully install that, so now there is a great and speedy connection throughout the apartment. Yay! Checked out the tv, argued substantially with the remote control, eventually got it at least partially programmed and discovered that I didn't have some of the channels that carry the programs I watch most (gotta feed the DaVinci Inquest addiction!) so I added to the package. Ouch, more bills...

Carol called about the Sarah Harmer show, and said there were tickets, but they were $37.50 plus tax and fees, and she didn't want to blow that much, did I? Nope. There is so much I need to spend money on, and I had hemmorhaged money the last month, so, she & her paramour, Sandy, who was visiting from Corner Brook, would drop over later. They got delayed due to Carol's daughter, but eventually turned up, with the bottle of Bombay Sapphire I'd requested, and a bottle of wine for them. Of course, that was the point at which I discovered I had no corkscrew. Sandy kindly went shopping and eventually we sat down and chatted for a couple of hours. It was complicated by the news that Jenna's boyfriend had turned up, and they were heading downtown, which has probably culminated in some disaster or other, but I haven't heard that yet. The boyfriend is from a place out near home, and is supposed to be taking Jenna and her stuff (and her drug problems) to live at her father's today, provided that going downtown didn't end up in a screaming match or her running off with her drug buddies. Ah, I hope no news is good news. And Sandy is very nice, not really what I expected, and of course, we know people in common.

Eventually got to sleep, following a phone call with [livejournal.com profile] fort_kanji.

I am treating today as a properly lazy Sunday, as there may not be a lot in the coming months. It's been a gorgeous day, certainly Indian summer as October has been known to snow here, and it's far from that. My landlord called and her hsuband dropped over to pick up my rent cheque - they hadn't given me the info to post it or pay it directly, and we both totally forgot about it until yesterday. Should have that in hand now, so I need to get my network secured and online banking sorted this week.

What was the surname of that guy called Shane from Corner Brook I dated at university? I know, none of you know either.

Looks like I will get home for Thanksgiving weekend next week, which is good. Angie called yesterday to tell me that Shane is driving out and my seat is indeed reserved, and Carol might go out herself. I'll take advantage of the chauffeuring services to pick up some more of the things I am discovering I'm missing then too. List started.

The new connection means I got my podcasts updated too, and managed to listen to a few of them this morning.

My lists of things I need to do keeps growing. But most of them are good, thankfully. I'm not settled yet, but things are moving in the right direction.
Good: Online banking set up, rent paid, transfer made to savings (me+savings = Does not compute.), generally tidy. Found a couple of Martyn Bennett tracks I didn't have. Didn't hit the open bottle of red in the fridge, nor the gin.

Bad: That dishwasher is incredibly noisy & clearly heard from the bedroom.

Potentially dangerous: browsing ebay after a five-month absence.
