My mother just woke me from a short nap, (I'd curled up because I have cramps and backache) to tell me that the school just phoned to say that some kid pushed my nephew down the slide and knocked out one of his front teeth.
I am so angry I can hardly speak - there has been suspicion for ages that they are not properly supervised, (and poor Kyle is the youngest child in the whole damn school) and this just seems to prove it. My sister-in-law has gone to collect him from the school - which is 18 bloody miles away from our village - and take him to the doctor. Renee is upset and in tears, and to top it off, today's her birthday. What a present.
I spoke to Angie afterwards, to vent some anger, because I couldn't get mad talking to Mom, who was already so upset. It's not fit to take little kids like that so far every day, and into a school that is crowded and where they know hardly anyone. Angie and I went to little village schools until we were 13, and we used to be watched like hawks until we were old enough to take care of ourselves. Now, his bloody teacher seems more interested in running her day-care business than in the children in her daily charge at school.

I just called my brother, who said he spoke to Kyle on the cellphone when his mother picked him up from school, and asked what he was going to do now that he'd lost a tooth. His answer: "I'm going to come home & ride my bike."
Jeff just called Kyle over to speak to me and he's OK, bit more of a lisp than usual, and he ran back to his bike without even saying goodbye to me!
So, he's fine. It's us "grown-ups" who get upset. :)
